Research design: definition, characteristics and types

Analysis
Noun
Is a detailed examination of the elements or structure of something.
Example: Should I wish to diagnose the farm business' financial condition, I would probably implement a financial ANALYSIS, but that would only illustrate fully, the business' situation when coupled with a budgetary ANALYSIS, as that puts the amount of money available to be invested within the business into context. In addition to financial and budgetary ANALYSIS' there are various other methods available to me to use for measuring and controlling the organisational performance of the farm, the main ones of which are by ANALYSIS of the Cash Flow Statement, the Profit and Loss Statement and by looking at Share values.

Correlational Research
Noun
Is a type of non-experimental research method in which a researcher measures two variables, understands and assesses the statistical relationship between them with no influence from any extraneous variable. Correlation studies are used to establish how variables are related to each other. In other words, these investigations evaluate how the characteristics of one variable correspond to those of other variables.
Example: A non-experimental design will be utilized, and CORRELATIONAL RESEARCH method will be used to study the relationships between attribute variables such as humour and adjustment. The most important reason to choose CORRELATIONAL RESEARCH is that the relationships between humour and intercultural adjustment are like an interactive network.
es: Investigaciones de correlación
Data collection
Noun
Is the process of gathering and measuring information on variables of interest, in an established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes.
Example: Data collection: As this study focuses on the perceptions of the participants and the meaning of the research focus to the participants, interviewing presents to be the most useful means of Data collection (Berg, 2001).
es: Recopilación de datos
Design generalization
Noun
Generalization is a process of extracting shared characteristics from two or more objects/processes and combine them into generalizing objects/ processes. This high-level concept is being used everywhere for different purposes in traditional software engineering practices.
Example: Design Generalization of Urban Sewage Source Heat Pump Heating and Air Conditioning Engineering
es: Generalización de diseño
Experimental research
Noun
Is research conducted with a scientific approach using two sets of variables. The first set acts as a constant, which you used to measure the differences of the second set.
Example: These theories are only useful if they can be applied to experimental research to answer the question of whether television and film violence is harmful to children.
es: Investigación experimental
Explanatory research
Noun
Is "the preliminary research to clarify the exact nature of the problem to be solved." It is used to ensure additional research is taken into consideration during an experiment as well as determining research priorities, collecting data and honing in on certain subjects which may be difficult to take note of without exploratory research.
Example: Assigned to collection of research proposals: compound. 2 2004-12 Research Methods and Analysis U43744 Proposal Health LS M 1 2882 105 45 0 0 0 0 4 8 no abstract 27.4 2.3 compound assignment consisting of 1 parts (see notesStmt for details) TEI P4 (documented in: BAWE.documentation.pdf) f 1984 English UKa Occupational Therapy 3035 Research Proposal: Randomized Control Trial EXPLANATORY RESEARCH question: Which is the most effective treatment method for someone with rheumatoid arthritis of the hand when trying to increase or maintain range of movement and muscle strength?
es: Investigación explicativa
Generalization
Verb
Is a form of abstraction whereby common properties of specific instances are formulated as general concepts or claims. Generalizations posit the existence of a domain or set of elements, as well as one or more common characteristics shared by those elements (thus creating a conceptual model).
Example: In the generalization stage, the learners form conclusions and Generalization´s that might be derived from, or stimulated by, the first two phases of the cycle.
es: Generalización
Measurement
Noun
It the process of associating numbers with physical quantities and phenomena. Measurement is fundamental to the sciences; to engineering, construction, and other technical fields; and to almost all everyday activities.
Example: "When I first started in industry in the fifties, attractions of work MEASUREMENT and method study as a means of improving productivity seemed almost like a philosopher's stone" John Harvey-Jones (1983) Operations Management and the Systems Approach to management emerged from the need to solve complex technical problems in World War II.
es: Medición
Neutrality
Noun
Is the state of not supporting or helping either side in a conflict, disagreement, etc.; impartiality.
Example: According to Weber, NEUTRALITY and equality are the key features of bureaucracy.
es: Neutralidad
Qualitative research
Noun
Is a process of naturalistic inquiry that seeks an in-depth understanding of social phenomena within their natural setting. It focuses on the "why" rather than the "what" of social phenomena and relies on the direct experiences of human beings as meaning-making agents in their every day lives.
Example: Denzin (1989 cited in Polit and Hungler, 1997) has identified four types of triangulation used in qualitative research.
es: Investigación cualitativa
Quantitative research
Noun
Is defined as a systematic investigation of phenomena by gathering quantifiable data and performing statistical, mathematical, or computational techniques. Quantitative research collects information from existing and potential customers using sampling methods and sending out online surveys, online polls, questionnaires, etc., the results of which can be depicted in the form of numerical. After careful understanding of these numbers to predict the future of a product or service and make changes accordingly.
Example: Therefore, this essay will first briefly describe and explain the methods adopted in quantitative research, and use this to highlight the different methods used by qualitative researchers. Quantitative research has been described as being concerned with counting, for example, to discover the proportion of one make of a car to another in a particular area.
es: Investigación cuantitativa
Research Design
Noun
Is the framework of research methods and techniques chosen by a researcher. The design allows researchers to hone in on research methods that are suitable for the subject matter and set up their studies up for success.
Example: Therefore, national agricultural research and extension agencies, as well as private institutions working with agricultural and rural development projects, are aiming at a broader participation of farmers themselves in some or all the stages leading to decision-making for technology adoption: problem identification, research design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation (Okapi et al, 1994).
es: Diseño de Investigación
Survey research
Noun
Survey Research is defined as the process of conducting research using surveys that researchers send to survey respondents. The data collected from surveys is then statistically analyzed to draw meaningful research conclusions.
Example: Most often survey research is in keeping with the moral and ethical traditions of openness, truthfulness and confidentiality [if required]. However, most survey research does not go as in depth as many observational studies have and so the ethical problems facing researchers using the former are far more limited.
es: Investigación de encuestas
Timeline
Noun
It a graphic representation of the passage of time as a line.
Example: T. Zhang, Chem. Review , 2006, 106 , 2583-2595 2005 ISI® Journal Citation Reports® Analyses Figure 1: The number of items published by and citations of Organic Process Research and Development each year Data from ISI® Web of Science To fully understand the importance of PR&D, it is useful to know where in the drug development TIMELINE it comes into play.
es: Cronología
Validity
Noun
Is the state of being legally or officially binding or acceptable.
Example: This simple method tends to be considered as high validity, and this method has contributed the basic principles for various subsequent studies of obsidian trade on the regional level.
es: Validez
